Yeah, I’m still signed with Warp. The catch is, I’ve had monumental writer’s block for months and it’s only recently disappeared. No hard feelings towards Jake, or any other band mates of the past - but I just work better on my own. At least at this point in my ‘career’. I find that I feel less is on the line for anyone else if it’s simply my own work that’s put under the scrutiny of my (for lack of a better term) bosses. I’m more focused and confident as a solo artist. As it stands now, I’m simply not reliable in a band atmosphere. I have college and that takes up more time than I’d like to admit. I can’t spread my responsibilities around so far and expect to please everybody, and I’d rather not lose any friends or potential future projects to my own inability to get things done on time.
I think what needs to happen before I work with anyone is a few successful releases with good reviews. Then, I’ll feel confident in my own ability to work with others. It sounds lame, but it’s the truth. I need to verify for myself that I have the talent Warp and friends.. and so many other people have complimented me with. I need a release, to prove to myself I can do this shit.
Interestingly enough, the new EP I’m working on sounds like vintage Autechre mixed with Boards of Canada and Dance Punk. Yet it sounds nothing like either band. Hard to explain. I’ll hype up my shit when I have material to post here. Key words for this? Ambient, mid 90s IDM. Huge influences on me right now.
